Staff QA Software Engineer

About the role

OpenMined is seeking a Staff QA Software Engineer to build and lead its quality function from the ground up. You will work closely with engineering teams, embedding quality practices directly into the development workflow to ensure reliability, security, and data integrity of our products.

Key responsibilities

• Own delivery of engineering quarterly goals, balancing impact and resource management.
• Assess current test coverage across product teams, identify high‑risk areas, and create a prioritized testing roadmap.
• Design and implement testing frameworks for a multi‑language stack, making testing as easy as writing features.
• Define and socialize quality policies, minimum quality gates, and production‑readiness standards.
• Pair with engineers on test design, review pull requests for test quality, and promote collaborative testing.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipeline quality gates, including test suites, linting rules, and reporting.
• Develop automated PR checks and contributor CI gates for open‑source contributions.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership through code contributions, reviews, and documentation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on quality assurance.
• Proven ability to read codebases, identify risky surfaces, and design comprehensive testing strategies.
• Experience working embedded within engineering teams rather than as a separate QA group.
• Strong communication skills to teach and influence engineering practices.
