Senior System Engineer - Unix/Linux Infrastructure

About the role

This role is for an Infrastructure Subject Matter Expert who designs, builds and implements infrastructure solutions for the Unix / Linux domain. The engineer also fixes and troubleshoots issues, proposes improvements to project deliverables and helps the project manager define scope and objectives, ensuring technical feasibility.

Key responsibilities

• Perform functional analysis of solutions as part of developing initial project requirements.
• Complete handover manuals for the infrastructure to the operations team.
• Proactively identify operational weaknesses and propose service improvement plans.
• Support planned weekend activities such as patching.
• Drive projects individually and ensure deliverables are met on time.

Required profile

• Minimum 7+ years of hands-on engineering experience in large-scale enterprise Unix/Linux environments.
• Ability to work in complex, cross-border, internationally remote engineering teams.
• Clear alignment with ITIL and experience with Incident, Change and Problem management lifecycles.

Required skills

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), Solaris or IBM AIX.
• LVM, filesystem maintenance, cron jobs, log rotation and analysis.
• User and identity management with LDAP, Active Directory and Samba.
• Monitoring with Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus or Datadog; L2 networking (TCP/IP, iptables, firewalld, tcpdump, netstat, dig).
• High availability with Pacemaker or IBM PowerHA; virtualization with VMware vSphere, KVM and IBM PowerVM.
• DNS (BIND), mail servers (Postfix/Sendmail), Red Hat Satellite or SUSE Manager, and infrastructure automation with Ansible, SaltStack, Python or Bash.
• Security hardening and patching aligned with PCI-DSS and CIS guidelines.
