Engineering Manager - Linux Hardware Enablement

About the role

Canonical is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team that partners with major silicon vendors to optimise Ubuntu across the full Linux stack – from kernel to GUI – for the latest IoT and server‑class hardware. The role is fast‑paced, problem‑solving and requires strong technical leadership and stakeholder management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers to design and implement Ubuntu integration for next‑generation hardware platforms.
• Engage with commercial silicon partners to deliver a high‑quality, optimised Ubuntu experience.
• Coach, mentor and develop engineers, fostering a collaborative culture.
• Oversee commercial engagements and ensure timely delivery on project milestones.
• Maintain strict quality and reliability standards across all deliverables.
• Collaborate with internal Canonical teams to align product architecture and roadmaps.
• Work remotely with up to two weeks of travel per year.

Required profile

• Proven experience with Linux distributions, Debian packaging and high‑performance server hardware.
• Track record of working directly with customers to resolve technical issues and translate business needs into solutions.
• Demonstrated experience managing or leading software engineering teams.
• Understanding of agile software development methodologies.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills in English.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a technology‑related field.
