About the role
Canonical is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Ceph and Distributed Storage team. You will drive the development of an open‑source, software‑defined storage solution that runs on commodity hardware, making large‑scale data storage simple, safe and cost‑effective.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a globally distributed team building a Ceph‑focused storage platform.
- Define and maintain sound software architecture, quality standards, testing and documentation.
- Set realistic schedules, manage expectations with internal engineering groups and external stakeholders.
- Promote modern agile development practices and continuous improvement.
- Foster a collaborative culture aligned with Canonical’s values and contribute to leadership discussions.
Required profile
- Strong technical background in software engineering with proven leadership experience.
- Ability to mentor, coach and develop engineers to achieve high performance.
- Excellent communication skills and a track record of influencing technical direction.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% for team meetings and stakeholder engagements.
Required skills
- Hands‑on experience with Ceph and distributed storage systems.
- Knowledge of software‑defined storage concepts.
- Proficiency in software architecture design and implementation.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
