Software Engineer – Python – Container Images

About the role

Canonical is creating a new generation of Ubuntu‑based container images that are free, secure, and performance‑optimised. As a Software Engineer you will design, build, and maintain these images while collaborating with internal teams and the open‑source community.

Key responsibilities

• Develop robust, scalable container images for Ubuntu.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for building, testing, and publishing images.
• Write tools and automated tests to verify security compliance and cloud‑native compatibility.
• Participate in code and architectural reviews to ensure high engineering standards.
• Contribute to Python‑ and Go‑based container‑building tooling.
• Provide technical feedback to guide team decisions.
• Engage with the open‑source community as a subject‑matter expert.
• Document processes and expand the knowledge base.

Required profile

• Strong software development background with experience in container technologies.
• Hands‑on experience building CI/CD automation for container workflows.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and drive quality.
