Senior Software Engineer – MAAS

About the role

Canonical is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the MAAS (Metal as a Service) team. You will help shape the future of Ubuntu’s bare‑metal cloud provisioning platform, working with a globally distributed group of engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and ship core MAAS components and new features.
• Refine the architecture to make MAAS simpler, faster and more user‑friendly.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration with related tools and timely releases.
• Improve the continuous‑integration pipeline, testing practices and overall code quality.
• Produce high‑quality documentation for data‑centre operators and end users.
• Provide technical communication and support across teams.
• Take ownership of issues and drive them to resolution.
• Travel internationally a few times a year for in‑person collaboration.

Required profile

• Passionate about open‑source, Linux and data‑centre automation.
• Strong professional experience in back‑end development with Python and Go (or front‑end with TypeScript/React).
• Quick learner with solid problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Experience with Linux server technologies such as KVM and LXC.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM or equivalent.
• Knowledge of networking protocols (PXE, DHCP, TFTP, DNS, NTP) and BMC interfaces (Redfish, IPMI, AMT).
