About the role
Sparq is looking for a seasoned .NET Principal Architect to lead the modernization of legacy applications and guide migration to Microsoft Azure. You will shape cloud‑ready architectures, define repeatable migration patterns, and mentor engineering teams across multiple projects.
Key responsibilities
- Assess legacy .NET applications and define the most effective modernization and migration strategy.
- Lead architecture decisions for moving web applications, APIs, services, and databases to Azure.
- Guide refactoring efforts, including transforming monoliths into modern, cloud‑native architectures.
- Document repeatable migration patterns for the Cloud Enablement Team.
- Partner with senior engineers to move applications into production on Azure.
- Advise on database modernization, performance tuning, and SQL Server best practices.
- Establish guardrails and best practices for secure, scalable, and maintainable Azure deployments.
- Translate complex cloud concepts into practical guidance for application teams.
- Support initiatives such as SOAP‑to‑REST transitions and containerizing Windows Services.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple development teams during migration efforts.
Required profile
- Deep understanding of .NET application architecture (ASP.NET.NET Framework.NET Core).
- Strong experience with web applications, REST APIs, SOAP services, and Windows Services.
- Proven track record assessing and refactoring legacy enterprise applications.
- Extensive SQL Server and database design expertise.
- Experience modernizing monolithic applications into cloud‑ready architectures.
- Hands‑on knowledge of Microsoft Azure fundamentals (resource groups, networking, identity, RBAC, security).
- Experience migrating on‑premises workloads to Azure using App Services, containers, and Azure SQL/Managed Instance.
- Familiarity with messaging modernization (MSMQ to Azure Service Bus).
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps or GitHub Enterprise.
- Working knowledge of Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools such as Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform.
