About the role
Canonical is looking for a Linux Devices Software Engineer to join the Snapd team. You will work on mission‑critical Go code that powers software delivery, containers, security sandboxing, telemetry and device management for Ubuntu‑based devices.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborate proactively with a distributed, global team.
- Write high‑quality Go code to add new features and improve existing functionality.
- Debug Linux system‑level issues and produce robust fixes.
- Review code submitted by peers and contribute to design discussions.
- Ensure robustness of the system in adverse conditions such as power outages.
- Participate in occasional in‑person meetings (up to two weeks, twice a year).
Required profile
- Passion for technology and open‑source development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM or equivalent.
- Professional software development experience with Go, Python, C or C++.
- Strong understanding of Linux system‑level fundamentals (cgroups, namespaces, AppArmor).
- Commitment to testing, code reviews and maintainable code.
- Self‑motivated, curious, flexible and accountable.
