Golang System Software Engineer – Containers & Virtualisation

About the role
Canonical is looking for a Golang System Software Engineer to join the LXD team. You will work on the low‑level Go code that bridges the REST API with C libraries managing containers and virtual machines, helping to build a next‑generation private cloud infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement and document system‑level Go code.
- Model data, design database schemas and implement storage using dqlite (SQL) databases.
- Maintain code quality through static analysis, unit and system tests.
- Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team.
- Participate in travel for internal and external events (2‑4 weeks per year).
Required profile
- Experience programming in Go and C.
- Strong knowledge of networking and storage technologies.
- Hands‑on experience with at least two of the following: cloud computing, virtualization, containers, distributed systems, open‑source community.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or a related field.
- Curious, flexible, articulate and accountable.
