About the role
Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. You will guide the development of high‑performance Go and Python services that secure access to Ubuntu‑based products such as Ubuntu One SSO, Juju, LXD, and MAAS. This role combines people leadership with hands‑on technical work in a fully remote environment.
Key responsibilities
- Define technical vision and roadmap for IAM products in collaboration with product management.
- Hire, mentor, and lead a high‑performing engineering team.
- Manage the team backlog, conduct code reviews, and ensure delivery of high‑quality software.
- Design, implement, and test distributed, containerised services that run on bare metal, public cloud, and Kubernetes.
- Collaborate with upstream open‑source projects and internal teams to integrate IAM solutions.
- Participate in community events, hackfests, webinars, and conferences.
Required profile
- Proven experience hiring and leading high‑performance software engineering teams.
- Strong background in Go and Python development.
- Demonstrated ability to design and operate complex, large‑scale distributed systems.
- Hands‑on experience with container technologies and Kubernetes.
- Deep understanding of software and infrastructure security and performance.
