Data Engineer (SQL-focused)

About the role

Blend is seeking a Data Engineer with strong SQL expertise to analyse, validate and document its existing data ecosystem. The role does not involve building new pipelines but focuses on understanding current implementations, ensuring business rules are correctly applied, and producing clear technical documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze existing SQL code, stored procedures, ETL jobs and data transformations.
• Trace data through current pipelines to understand information flow across the platform.
• Validate that business rules are correctly implemented within the existing technical solution.
• Document the current implementation, including data flows, transformations, table relationships and technical dependencies.
• Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to confirm findings and support discovery activities.
• Review existing data processes to confirm system behaviour and identify implementation details.
• Provide insight for technical documentation on how the current data platform operates.

Required profile

• Strong SQL skills, including complex queries, CTEs, window functions, joins and stored procedures.
• Experience with IBM DataStage or a comparable enterprise ETL tool.
• Proven ability to analyze existing ETL processes, data transformations and relational databases.
• Understanding of data flows through enterprise data platforms and ETL pipelines.
• Analytical and problem‑solving mindset with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
