Staff Backend Engineer (Node/Nest.js)

About the role

We are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to design and build high‑performance, enterprise‑grade APIs using Node.js, NestJS and TypeScript. The role is remote‑first and involves close collaboration with frontend engineers to deliver seamless integrations while shaping the platform’s architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable APIs with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Architect modular backend systems, implement caching strategies and optimise runtime efficiency.
• Build and manage large‑scale NX monorepos, including shared libraries and complex build configurations.
• Collaborate with frontend teams to define efficient API contracts and integration points.
• Apply object‑oriented design principles and software architecture patterns to solve complex problems.
• Contribute to system‑wide architecture decisions and promote maintainable codebases.
• Continuously improve backend performance, system reliability and development workflows.

Required profile

• Proven experience building high‑performance, enterprise‑grade APIs with Node.js and NestJS.
• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript, including generics, decorators and asynchronous programming.
• Demonstrated ability to design scalable, modular backend systems and optimise performance.
• Experience managing large NX monorepos and complex build pipelines.
• Strong communication skills in English and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
