Lead Data Engineer – Azure Data Platform

About the role

Blend is seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer to design and operate a foundational Azure data platform for a large telecommunications client. The role focuses on building robust ingestion pipelines, implementing a Medallion architecture, and delivering trusted data models for operational reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable batch and incremental ingestion pipelines feeding Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers.
• Create source‑to‑target mapping documentation and define conformed dimensions, taxonomies, and KPI metrics.
• Model and transform data across Medallion layers to support Power BI reporting, optimizing tables for KPI requirements.
• Implement and maintain governed data access controls, including role‑based, column‑level, and row‑level security for PIPEDA compliance.
• Develop automated data‑quality checks, error handling, and end‑to‑end testing for all pipeline stages.
• Drive reconciliation and sign‑off of Silver‑to‑Gold data with business stakeholders.
• Maintain a comprehensive data dictionary aligned with business definitions.

Required profile

• Several years of hands‑on experience in cloud data engineering, preferably on Azure.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with BI consultants, DevOps engineers, and data governance teams.
• Strong understanding of data governance and regulatory compliance (e.g., PIPEDA).
