Data Engineering Manager – Databricks

About the role

Blend is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead the design, build, and maintenance of semantic layers and KPI models using Databricks Metric Views. You will work closely with business owners and AI engineers to deliver governed executive scorecards and AI‑powered analytical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain semantic layers and KPI models with Databricks Metric Views.
• Collaborate with business owners to translate KPI requirements into reusable data models and business logic.
• Profile source data quality, ownership, grain, and reconciliation across enterprise systems.
• Develop data integration and transformation pipelines for AI‑generated narratives and conversational analytics.
• Define conformed dimensions and market‑specific variations for multi‑market reporting.
• Work with Business Analysts and AI Engineers to align KPI definitions with data structures and ontologies.
• Establish and enforce data quality, validation, and monitoring frameworks.
• Implement security, access control, and governance practices aligned with platform standards.
• Lead technical documentation, knowledge transfer, and production readiness assessments.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering.
• Proven expertise in semantic layer and KPI/metric modeling.
• Hands‑on experience with Databricks Metric Views or equivalent tooling.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python for data processing and pipeline development.
• Strong knowledge of Azure Databricks and modern ELT/ETL tools.
• Deep understanding of data modeling techniques, conformed dimensions, and Medallion‑style architectures.
• Experience profiling data quality, lineage, and reconciliation across multiple sources.
• Ability to work directly with business stakeholders to gather and implement KPI requirements.
• Familiarity with business ontology and semantic modeling concepts.
• Proficiency with Git version control and collaborative development practices.
