Telco Field Engineering Director

About the role

Canonical is looking for a Telco Field Engineering Director to lead its worldwide Telco Field Engineering business. The role involves helping operators and communications service providers adopt open‑source, software‑defined solutions across public clouds and on‑premise data centres.

Key responsibilities

• Lead three regional Telco Field Engineering teams (APAC, EMEA, AMER) and define their strategic direction.
• Work directly with customers to design, deploy and hand over private and public cloud solutions that meet telco workload requirements.
• Provide technical pre‑sales guidance and participate in solution architecture discussions.
• Oversee delivery of projects that use Ubuntu, OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL and related open‑source technologies.
• Mentor engineers, develop management skills within the team and foster a culture of continuous learning.
• Drive the adoption of VNF/CNF approaches and software‑defined services in the telco sector.

Required profile

• Seasoned engineer with deep technical expertise and a passion for troubleshooting complex issues.
• Proven experience in technical pre‑sales conversations and customer‑facing roles.
• Strong leadership ability to shape team focus, delivery and growth.
• Background in telco, cloud, or open‑source software transformations.
