Staff Software Engineer, Product

About the role

LawnStarter is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead product‑focused initiatives on its fast‑growing on‑demand marketplace. You will work closely with a product manager and designer, guiding the technical direction from problem definition through production and post‑launch metric analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end delivery of a product initiative, including architecture, data modeling, integration, rollout, observability, and rollback strategies.
• Direct AI coding agents to generate production‑ready code while ensuring safety, correctness, and quality through prompts, guardrails, evaluations, and tests.
• Write hand‑crafted code for sensitive areas where human expertise is required.
• Collaborate daily with product and design partners to define scope, trade‑offs, and UX decisions.
• Partner with engineering peers across initiatives, reviewing code and sharing knowledge within a shared codebase.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ownership mindset and ability to ship features that impact real customers and service providers.
• Comfortable making technical decisions independently and presenting significant architectural choices for review.
• Strong product sense, able to contribute to both product and engineering discussions.

Required skills

• Experience guiding AI‑assisted development workflows.
• Proficiency in designing scalable, observable systems.
• Ability to write high‑quality, production‑grade code in the team’s primary language(s).
