Staff Backend Software Engineer

About the role

Hopper is expanding its Hopper Technology Solutions platform, a multi‑tenant travel commerce engine used by major global brands. As a Staff Backend Software Engineer you will drive the next phase of growth, building intelligent, AI‑enhanced features that connect cardholder behavior with targeted offers and enable partners to launch new travel experiences quickly.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and implement codebase improvements that accelerate development for both humans and AI agents.
• Collaborate with senior engineers in a low‑process, high‑trust environment.
• Drive technical decisions asynchronously through thorough documentation and specifications.
• Own end‑to‑end feature delivery, primarily on the backend while leveraging AI tooling across the stack as needed.
• Design scalable architectures and foundational patterns for rapid partner onboarding.
• Partner directly with product managers and business stakeholders to shape the roadmap.
• Provide and receive feedback within a diverse engineering team.

Required profile

• Comfortable diving into unfamiliar codebases and delivering results quickly.
• Strong product mindset, prioritising customer impact over technical elegance.
• Experience directing AI agents and automated workflows to build and maintain complex systems.
• Ability to work autonomously and influence decisions through clear documentation.
