Staff Backend Engineer

About the role

Nango is a YC‑backed developer infrastructure startup building the leading API access platform for agents and apps. As a Staff Backend Engineer you will own core backend systems end‑to‑end, shaping the product roadmap and delivering high‑impact features for thousands of developers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and scale backend services, APIs and databases for an open‑source platform.
• Build developer‑focused interfaces such as SDKs, UIs and runtimes that provide an excellent developer experience.
• Collaborate directly with paying customers to solve integration challenges and gather feedback.
• Optimize performance, reliability and scalability across all backend components.
• Influence product strategy and roadmap through high‑ownership decision making.
• Maintain and contribute to Nango’s open‑source repositories and community.

Required profile

• 5+ years of senior‑level or 10+ years of staff‑level backend engineering experience.
• Proven track record of scaling high‑traffic, performance‑critical systems.
• Deep experience with developer infrastructure, APIs and database design.
• Passion for developer tools and delivering outstanding developer experience.
• Comfortable working with Node.js and modern backend stacks.
• Strong communicator, proactive and reliable in a remote‑first environment.
• Product mindset, low ego, and ability to handle incidents and unblock teammates.
• Self‑driven, ownership‑focused and comfortable navigating startup ambiguity.
