About the role
Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer with strong Python, Linux and packaging expertise to improve the workflow of thousands of snap, rock and charm publishers. You will work on specialist tools that simplify building and publishing software across Ubuntu‑based ecosystems.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain Python tools that support the build and publication process for snaps, charms and rocks.
- Own tooling that builds Snapcraft, Charmcraft and Rockcraft packages.
- Collaborate with external open‑source and commercial projects to extend the snap build ecosystem.
- Integrate with CI systems and automation pipelines to streamline developer workflows.
- Provide support and enhancements for cross‑compilation and container‑based build environments.
Required profile
- Proven expertise in Python development.
- Strong understanding of modern GNU/Linux distributions.
- Good knowledge of build systems, toolchains and cross‑compilation techniques.
- Experience working with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes and LXD.
