Senior System Engineer - Unix/Linux Infrastructure

About the role

A healthcare company seeking an Infrastructure Subject Matter Expert to design, build and implement infrastructure solutions for the Unix/Linux domain. The role also includes fixing and improving project deliverables, helping define project scope and objectives, writing handover manuals for the operations team and proposing service improvement plans.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and implement Unix/Linux infrastructure solutions
• Troubleshoot and propose improvements to project deliverables
• Assist the project manager in defining project scope and objectives, and perform functional analysis of solutions
• Complete handover manuals for the operations team and identify operational weaknesses
• Support planned weekend activities such as patching

Required profile

• Minimum 7+ years of hands-on engineering experience in large-scale enterprise Unix/Linux environments
• Ability to work in complex, cross-border, internationally remote teams and to run several parallel projects
• Project delivery: able to drive projects independently and meet deadlines

Required skills

• RHEL, SLES, Solaris or IBM AIX; LVM, filesystems, cron jobs, log rotation
• User and identity management with LDAP, Active Directory and Samba
• Monitoring with Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus or Datadog
• L2 networking (TCP/IP, iptables/firewalld, SSH, tcpdump, netstat)
• High availability with Pacemaker or IBM PowerHA
• Virtualization: VMware vSphere, KVM, IBM PowerVM
• DNS (BIND), mail servers (Postfix/Sendmail), Red Hat Satellite or SUSE Manager
• Ansible, SaltStack, Python or Bash scripting
• ITIL incident, change and problem management; security hardening aligned with PCI-DSS and CIS
