Senior Backend Engineer (Platform & Distributed Systems)

About the role

Plan A Technologies is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to shape the future of its internal developer platform. You will work on large‑scale, cloud‑native systems, driving technical decisions that improve reliability, scalability, and developer productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the technical roadmap for the internal developer platform, championing open standards and an exceptional developer experience.
• Design, develop, and maintain core platform features such as CI/CD pipelines, monorepos, feature‑flag systems, and observability tooling.
• Build high‑quality internal tools and APIs that guide engineers along the "golden path" for development and deployment.
• Partner with engineering teams to translate pain points into system‑wide improvements in reliability, scalability, and quality.
• Create advanced, automated, AI‑driven workflows to boost operational efficiency.
• Establish and refine standards for system reliability, performance, and monitoring, including SLAs and SLOs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience focused on large‑scale systems.
• Proven ability to influence technical decisions and lead complex projects.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving abilities, and excellent cross‑functional communication.
• Fluent verbal and written English.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Go, Java, or Python (at least one).
• Familiarity with TypeScript (bonus).
• Experience building and operating large‑scale services on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Deep understanding of cloud‑native applications and Kubernetes architecture.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines, internal developer portals, and service meshes.
