Rust Backend Architect - AI Training Projects

About the role

Gramian Consultancy, a boutique consultancy for IT professional services and engineering talent solutions, is looking for an experienced Rust Backend Architect to contribute to an AI training project focused on production-grade Rust development, backend architecture and complex systems engineering. The role is remote and worldwide, with immediate availability preferred.

Key responsibilities

• Solve and validate Rust backend problems involving APIs, data persistence, concurrency, performance and reliability.
• Translate functional requirements, performance targets and failure-handling expectations into reproducible implementation and testing workflows.
• Design, review and assess backend architectures for correctness, scalability, maintainability and production readiness.
• Prepare Rust crate workspaces, configuration files, test fixtures, dependencies, databases and containerized development environments.
• Develop and validate test cases covering expected behavior, edge cases, failure scenarios and system reliability.
• Debug complex backend issues and evaluate asynchronous and concurrent systems, including race conditions, resource contention and performance bottlenecks.
• Produce clear technical explanations and artifacts, and deliver about 15 hours per week by the project deadlines.

Required profile

• Senior or architect-level engineer with strong written and verbal English.
• Substantial professional, research or open-source experience in Rust development.
• Experience analyzing and solving complex backend correctness, scalability, reliability or performance problems.
• Ability to start within 24-48 hours of onboarding.

Required skills

• Rust, including workspaces, dependency management and test environments.
• Backend service design, APIs, data persistence and production software architecture.
• Asynchronous programming, concurrency, error handling and performance optimization in Rust.
• Strong debugging, analytical reasoning and technical writing.
