Linux Software Engineer – Ubuntu for Next‑Gen Silicon

About the role

Canonical’s Partner Engineering team is looking for Linux Software Engineers to work on Ubuntu across a range of next‑generation silicon platforms. The role is fully remote and involves collaborating with global silicon partners to optimise Ubuntu for new hardware accelerators, AI stacks, and other emerging technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with distributed teams and external silicon partners to optimise Ubuntu for new architectures (x86, ARM, RISC‑V, PowerPC, s390x).
• Maintain and improve silicon‑specific features, packages and toolchains across servers, HPC, AI, IoT, and automotive systems.
• Debug and resolve issues in open‑source and team‑maintained codebases.
• Support customers in building OS images, integrating SDKs and optimising applications on Ubuntu Core, Desktop and Server.
• Contribute to upstream Ubuntu and Debian communities and advise on cross‑project work.

Required profile

• Strong academic background in a technical discipline.
• Passion for open‑source software and collaborative development.
• Excellent communication, curiosity and accountability.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
