Lead Data Scientist

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Data Scientist to design and deliver AI‑powered chatbot solutions for specialized shopping assistant use cases. The role combines deep expertise in large language models, Python development, and responsible AI practices to create reliable, compliant conversational agents.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, analytics, and engineering teams to build and refine a shopping‑assistant chatbot.
• Develop and optimise prompt‑engineering strategies to improve interaction quality.
• Build LLM‑based agents that integrate with APIs, databases, and external tools via function calling.
• Apply model evaluation techniques to prevent hallucinations and ensure chatbot reliability.
• Use A/B testing frameworks to measure and continuously improve performance.
• Implement Responsible AI and compliance principles for ethical and regulatory alignment.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to generate insights and define data requirements for engineering.
• Advise cloud engineering teams on infrastructure needs for AI‑driven chatbot solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of professional data‑science experience.
• At least 1 year of people‑management or team‑lead experience (team of 5+ FTEs).
• Strong English communication skills (B2 level or higher).

Required skills

• Deep expertise with Large Language Models, especially OpenAI APIs on Azure.
• Advanced Python programming for AI workflow integration and optimisation.
• Experience building AI agents that use function calling to interact with external tools and databases.
• Knowledge of hallucination‑prevention techniques and model evaluation.
• Solid understanding of Responsible AI, compliance, and ethical AI guidelines.
• Hands‑on experience in Natural Language Processing and Conversational AI development.
• Familiarity with A/B testing, experimentation, and performance‑metric tracking.
• Proficiency in exploratory data analysis (EDA) to extract actionable insights.
• Awareness of cloud services (e.g., Azure) for specifying infrastructure requirements.
