Data Specialist - AML/CFT Transaction Monitoring
dLocal · Montevideo
Job description
About the role
A Compliance team is looking for a seasoned Data Specialist with at least 5 years of experience to focus on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) transaction monitoring. The role owns the analytical backbone of the transaction monitoring systems and helps build the data strategy within Compliance, either by working with a team of data scientists or by influencing Product teams upstream. It is a hands-on position with real influence on how financial crime is detected across LATAM, EMEA and APAC.
Key responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end analytical lifecycle of rule-based transaction monitoring systems, from data pulling and exploration in Databricks to proposing rule and threshold changes aligned with Compliance Leadership requirements.
- Maintain and refine the false negative methodology, i.e., how monitoring gaps are identified.
- Help shape the agentic monitoring function, from orchestration design to implementation, as automation expands across AML/CFT flows.
- Act as technical liaison with data scientists: gather and document requirements, challenge and validate models, and ensure outputs are usable for compliance decisions.
- Own regulatory reporting for AML/CFT monitoring, keeping data accurate, complete and traceable, and resolving data quality issues early.
- Build and maintain audit-ready documentation for every methodology change, with rationale that can be defended to regulators or auditors.
- Translate evolving AML/CFT regulatory requirements into concrete data and monitoring needs with Compliance Leadership.
- Generate reports and dashboards showing framework performance and monitoring effectiveness to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering or a correlated field, or proven experience in a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data analytics, risk or fraud/financial crime analytics, ideally in financial services or fintech.
- Deep AML/CFT transaction monitoring experience is a strong plus but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience as a technical liaison or requirement owner working with Data, Product and Engineering teams.
- Experience producing documentation that holds up under audit or regulatory scrutiny is a strong plus.
- Proactive, collaborative mindset and comfort with a high degree of autonomy in a small, growing team.
Required skills
- Strong SQL and Python (Databricks environment preferred).
- Comfort with statistical analysis; ML frameworks are a plus, not required.
- Solid understanding of the end-to-end data lifecycle, from raw data and pipelines to modeling and reporting.
