Carbon Markets Consultant – Climate & Environment Division

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated professional with a strong record in carbon removal markets to join the Climate and Environment Division of IDB Invest. The consultant will support the climate change team by providing state-of-the-art knowledge and tools to develop carbon market opportunities across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Key responsibilities

• Define an overarching strategy to align IDB Invest’s products and services with regional needs, focusing on the development of the Compliance Carbon Market (CCM) and Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM).
• Contribute to the creation of intellectual leadership products, deliver insights and training on CCM and VCM in LAC, and prepare IDB Invest officers for transactions involving carbon credits.
• Develop practical tools for technical screening, prioritisation and processing of investment, financing and advisory opportunities related to carbon credits.
• Identify, select and connect with technologies and companies that can provide solutions to client challenges in the region.
• Support advisory projects with clients seeking to establish and implement decarbonisation and resiliency strategies, commitments and action plans.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Environmental Science, International Development or a related field.
• 5–9 years of relevant professional experience in private finance, climate technologies and agribusiness, with proven experience working with private-sector actors.
