Staff QA Software Engineer

About the role

OpenMined is seeking a Staff QA Software Engineer to build and lead its quality function from the ground up. You will work closely with engineering teams, embed in product development, and shape the organization’s testing strategy to ensure reliable, secure, and data‑integrity‑focused software.

Key responsibilities

• Own delivery of engineering’s quarterly goals, balancing impact and resources.
• Collaborate with product teams to assess current test coverage, identify high‑risk areas, and create a prioritized testing roadmap.
• Establish testing patterns across a multi‑language stack and implement frameworks that make testing as easy as writing features.
• Define and socialize quality policies, minimum quality gates, and production‑readiness standards.
• Spend regular time within each team’s workflow, pair on test design, review pull requests for test quality, and promote collaborative testing.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipeline quality gates, including testing suites, linting rules, and reporting.
• Develop automated PR checks and contributor CI gates for open‑source contributions.
• Champion high‑quality software delivery through tools, processes, and hands‑on technical leadership.
• Create technical documentation to support high velocity and knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven ability to read complex codebases, identify risk, and design effective testing strategies.
• Experience working embedded with engineering teams and influencing quality culture.
• Strong communication skills for teaching and documentation.

• CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance.
• Testing frameworks for multiple programming languages.
• Linting and static analysis tooling.
• Automated pull‑request checks and quality gates.
