Staff Software Engineer

About the role

OpenMined is seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to lead its Network Sourced AI (NSAI) squad. The team builds the core products that enable data to stay at its source while AI queries it live, delivering attribution‑rich answers. This is a hands‑on technical leadership position where you will write code, shape architecture, and set engineering standards.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end technical architecture of the NSAI squad, aligning design, engineering, and deployment across the stack.
• Drive production readiness through monitoring, error handling, graceful degradation, and operational runbooks.
• Establish and mentor best‑practice norms for modularity, security, reliability, and scalability.
• Collaborate on core technology strategy, defining shared primitives and standard interfaces.
• Partner with product leadership to create realistic roadmaps that balance ambition with feasibility.
• Lead the delivery of quarterly engineering milestones.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading high‑performing engineering teams in a production environment.
• Strong judgment on scaling, architectural trade‑offs, and feature prioritization.
• Passion for distributed systems that have real‑world impact.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and foster a collaborative culture.
