Cloud Database Administrator (NoSQL & AWS)

About the role

dLocal is looking for a senior Cloud Database Administrator to own and evolve our NoSQL data platform on AWS. You will be responsible for the design, operation, and optimisation of DynamoDB, DocumentDB and MongoDB services that power payments for global brands in emerging markets.

Key responsibilities

• Own, operate and optimise production DynamoDB workloads, including data modelling, capacity planning, GSIs/LSIs, TTL, Streams, backup/restore and multi‑region patterns.
• Design, deploy and maintain DocumentDB and MongoDB clusters, handling sharding, indexing, backups and performance tuning.
• Leverage AWS services (S3, KMS, IAM, CloudWatch, DMS, Lambda) to build reliable, observable and secure data solutions.
• Implement automation‑as‑code (CLI/SDK) for schema changes, capacity adjustments and operational guardrails.
• Establish observability (metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, SLOs/alerts) and lead performance investigations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on data access patterns, migrations and schema evolution with minimal downtime.
• Contribute to reliability engineering practices such as backups, disaster recovery, chaos testing and incident reviews.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation and handle emergency escalations.

Required profile

• Senior‑level hands‑on experience operating DynamoDB in production, including single‑table modelling and cost optimisation.
• Strong understanding of AWS cloud fundamentals for data platforms (IAM, KMS, networking, S3 patterns, monitoring).
• Experience with event‑driven architectures using AWS MSK or Kafka is highly valued.
• Proven ability to design, scale and troubleshoot DocumentDB or MongoDB clusters.
