About the role
Nortal is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to work remotely with its LATAM team. The engineer helps modernize and scale production platforms, such as a customer-data caching platform serving 20-25+ applications at about 3,000 requests per second, working across SRE, DevOps, engineering and architecture. The role suits someone who works independently, sets technical direction and thrives in small engineering teams.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and operate highly available, fault-tolerant distributed systems and caching platforms, evaluating the current architecture to scale toward six times current traffic.
- Improve caching strategies (TTLs, refresh patterns, cache placement) and move toward active-active resiliency, validating failure, recovery and capacity scenarios.
- Design and implement automated CI/CD pipelines with rolling, blue/green or canary deployments, automated checks and quality gates.
- Establish infrastructure, configuration and secrets as code, and build performance and load-testing capabilities with performance gates.
- Develop monitoring, alerting and observability for cache latency, throughput, availability and errors, and define SLIs, SLOs, error budgets and operational KPIs.
- Automate operations, troubleshoot production issues, run root-cause analysis and hold blameless post-incident reviews.
- Provide technical guidance and guardrails to SRE and development teams, collaborating with Java/Spring Boot engineers, architects and client FTEs.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, platform engineering or a similar production infrastructure role.
- Apache Cassandra experience, including data modeling, replication, consistency, tuning and multi-datacenter deployments.
- Strong understanding of caching architectures, high availability and observability, and hands-on AWS experience.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of ambiguous problems and lead a small team technically.
- Advanced English level, as the role involves US clients.
Required skills
- CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies, infrastructure and secrets as code.
- Performance testing, capacity planning and bottleneck identification.
- Scripting or programming for automation; Java/Spring Boot strongly preferred.
- Preferred: GraphQL, Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, Prometheus/Grafana/Datadog, Kafka/Amazon MSK, active-active or multi-region architectures, and enterprise customer-data platforms.
What we offer
- Competitive USD salary and full remote work, with coworking spaces across LATAM if you want to meet the team.
- Paid time off under local rules, national holidays, sick leave and a day off for your birthday.
- A yearly refundable credit for health and well-being, and support from a People Care team.
Candidates apply by uploading their resume; Nortal reviews profiles and contacts them when a matching role opens.
