Java Technical Lead (Hybrid, Montevideo)

About the role

Perficient is seeking a Java Technical Lead to join its Montevideo office on a hybrid schedule. You will own the full software development lifecycle for modern, cloud‑native backend systems, bridging solution architecture and engineering delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Drive design, development, and evolution of scalable backend services using Java 21+ and Spring Boot 3+
• Mentor senior, mid‑level and junior developers, fostering engineering excellence
• Design cloud‑native microservices, serverless components and event‑driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Collaborate with Solution Architects, Product Managers and QA leadership to translate business goals into technical solutions
• Establish and enforce best practices for code quality, security (DevSecOps) and automated testing
• Lead complex code reviews and architecture discussions
• Optimize performance, scalability, resilience and observability (telemetry, distributed tracing, metrics)
• Oversee CI/CD pipelines, integrating AI‑assisted development and automated deployment strategies
• Document technical solutions, drive technical debt reduction and share knowledge across the global organization

Required profile

• 7+ years of software engineering experience
• At least 2 years in a technical leadership or architectural role
• Proven track record designing, building and scaling distributed systems and microservices
• Strong experience with containerization and orchestration
