Engineering Manager – Public Cloud, Python, Golang

About the role

Canonical is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team that builds, tests and publishes Ubuntu base images for the world’s leading public‑cloud providers. You will combine technical expertise with people leadership to deliver high‑performance, secure cloud images and to represent the team in direct partner engagements.

Key responsibilities

• Build and lead a distributed engineering team across similar time zones.
• Coach, mentor and develop engineers through regular feedback and career planning.
• Own the stability, functionality and performance of Ubuntu images used on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.
• Automate the delivery pipeline for new and existing image products, including VM, container and GPU‑aided AI workloads.
• Engage directly with cloud partners (Amazon, Microsoft, Google) to align on requirements and enhancements.
• Conduct code reviews, drive architectural decisions and enforce healthy engineering practices.
• Ensure comprehensive documentation, quality standards and performance optimisation.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams.
• Strong background in software development with hands‑on expertise in Python and Golang.
• Ability to mentor engineers, foster a collaborative culture and manage performance.
• Excellent communication skills for partner interaction and internal representation.
