Cloud Architect – NoSQL & AWS Focus

About the role

dLocal is looking for a senior Cloud Architect to lead the design, operation and optimisation of its NoSQL data platform on AWS. You will own critical database services, drive performance, reliability and cost‑efficiency, and help evolve the platform at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Own, operate and optimise production DynamoDB workloads, including data modelling, capacity planning, GSIs/LSIs, TTL, Streams, backup/restore and multi‑region patterns.
• Design, deploy and maintain relational and non‑relational databases, handling sharding, indexing, backups and performance tuning.
• Leverage AWS services (S3, KMS, IAM, CloudWatch, DMS, Lambda, MSK/Kafka) to build secure, observable data solutions.
• Implement automation‑as‑code (CLI/SDK) for schema changes, capacity adjustments and operational guardrails.
• Establish observability (metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, SLOs/alerts) and lead performance investigations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on efficient data access patterns, migrations and schema evolution with minimal downtime.
• Contribute to reliability engineering practices such as backups, disaster recovery, chaos testing and incident reviews.
• Participate in on‑call rotation and handle emergency escalations, including off‑hours.

Required profile

• Senior‑level, hands‑on experience operating DynamoDB in production, including table design, indexing, Streams and cost optimisation.
• Strong background in AWS data services and cloud fundamentals (IAM, KMS, networking, S3 patterns).
• Experience with event‑driven architectures using AWS MSK or Kafka is highly valued.
• Familiarity with DocumentDB or MongoDB administration, including clustering, replication/sharding and performance tuning.
• Comfort working in an AI‑first culture, using AI tools to design, build and operate systems.
