Staff Engineer (Java)

About the role

dLocal is a payments infrastructure provider connecting global enterprises with customers in emerging economies, offering payment acceptance, cross-border payouts, platform integration, fraud management and financial services. It is looking for a Staff Engineer to optimize payment performance: improving conversion rates and take rate while keeping fraud and operational costs under control and ensuring compliance. You will help design and evolve systems for payment routing, fraud prevention and anomaly detection.

Key responsibilities

• Work with technology leaders and the product team to turn department goals into technical solutions.
• Design, develop and maintain high-quality Java applications and systems.
• Lead the technical architecture and design of Java projects, ensuring scalability, performance and maintainability.
• Optimize performance through code, database query and resource optimization.
• Troubleshoot design flaws and bottlenecks, and run performance tests to assess capacity and tune applications.
• Generate and present systems reports with metrics, bottlenecks and recommendations.
• Conduct code reviews and give constructive feedback.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering or computer science.
• At least 7 years of professional experience in Java development.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP (desired).
• Upper-intermediate written and spoken English; good verbal and written communication.
• Team player who collaborates across teams.

Required skills

• Solid Java application development and software architecture experience.
• In-depth knowledge of object-oriented design and design patterns.
• Spring and Hibernate frameworks.
• Event-driven architecture.
• Monitoring in production with tools such as Newrelic, Datadog, Grafana + Prometheus, Dynatrace, CloudWatch and ELK.
