Software Engineering Manager – Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure

About the role

Canonical is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a remote team building the next‑generation private cloud infrastructure based on KVM, Ceph and SDN. You will combine deep technical expertise with people‑development responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a distributed team of engineers, providing coaching, feedback and career development.
• Set expectations and collaborate with other engineering groups, senior management and external stakeholders.
• Drive modern software development practices, including code and architectural reviews.
• Engage with the open‑source community, partners and internal teams to align on strategy and execution.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading high‑performing engineering teams in a remote environment.
• Strong background in Linux kernel, virtualization, storage and networking technologies.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM or equivalent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Modern Linux cloud computing technologies (containers, Kubernetes, networking, storage).
• Programming in C and/or Go.
• Understanding of microservice architectures and distributed systems.
