Laboratory Technician – Molecular Biology

About the role

BGI Genomics, a global provider of genomic sequencing and proteomic services, is setting up one of the most advanced laboratories in Uruguay and is looking for a Laboratory Technician. The technician performs medical tests that help diagnose, treat and prevent diseases, operates high-quality laboratory equipment and follows standard protocols while working independently. The position is open only to graduates with a degree recognized by the MSP, preferably in Biochemistry or Clinical Biochemistry.

Key responsibilities

• Perform experiments following strict methodologies, procedures and protocols, making judgment calls when needed.
• Follow all safety and quality assurance policies and procedures.
• Carry out daily laboratory tests accurately and on time.
• Maintain daily logs and equipment record books.
• Take ownership of new requests and look for ways to add value to the work.
• Handle other assigned duties, including operational support.
• Assess risks of relevant procedures and identify problems that could affect test performance or reporting, fixing them or notifying the Laboratory Director.

Required profile

• BS in Life Sciences (Biochemistry, Clinical Biochemistry, etc.)
• Familiarity with a high-throughput production environment; experience with liquid handling automation preferred.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques and familiarity with molecular biology systems, processes and high-end analytical instrumentation.
• Detail-oriented, good record keeping, analytical and organizational skills, and able to work in a team.
• Intermediate English speaking and writing.
