Electrical Engineer, Power Systems

About the role

Silver River is seeking an Electrical Engineer with a strong interest in power systems to join its Uruguay team. You will work with real European electricity market data to develop and validate models that assess grid inertia, frequency security, flexibility, and coupled gas‑power dynamics.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse historical European grid data to build quantitative models of physical state and resilience.
• Implement modelling algorithms in Python and compare outputs with published system operator data.
• Collaborate with software engineers to integrate validated models into production‑ready tools.
• Document model assumptions, methodology, and validation results for non‑technical stakeholders.
• Stay updated on power‑system physics and emerging market data sources.

Required profile

• Based in Uruguay.
• Degree or advanced studies in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Systems, or a closely related field.
• Working understanding of swing equation, system frequency response, grid inertia and fast frequency response.
• Comfortable handling large time‑series datasets.
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑engineers and produce precise documentation.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Required skills

• Python programming for data analysis and modelling.
• Experience with ENTSO‑E Transparency Platform API (nice to have).
• Familiarity with PyPSA or PyPSA‑Eur.
• Knowledge of unit commitment and economic dispatch techniques.
• Integrated gas and electricity modelling experience.
• Validating models against historical data.
