Director, Legal – Uruguay & Latin America

About the role

UPM is seeking a Director of Legal to lead its legal affairs across Uruguay and the wider Latin America region. Based in Montevideo, you will head a skilled legal team supporting the UPM Fibres business, the company’s largest industrial platform in Uruguay.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the legal team in Uruguay, fostering a high‑performance, collaborative culture.
• Provide legal advice that supports business objectives, decision‑making and transformation initiatives.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve legal policies, processes and governance aligned with UPM’s strategic priorities.
• Partner closely with business leaders and stakeholders across the Latin America region to enable growth while managing legal risks.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal risks, delivering commercially sound solutions.
• Represent the legal function at all UPM Fibres operations sites, including pulp mills, forestry and logistics.

Required profile

• Qualified legal professional with extensive experience in corporate and commercial law.
• Strong business acumen and proven ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Leadership experience managing a legal team in a multinational environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of the regulatory landscape in Uruguay and Latin America.
• Excellent communication skills in English; Spanish proficiency is advantageous.
