AML Investigator (100% Remote, LATAM)

About the role

Bitfinex is looking for an AML Investigator to work fully remotely, reporting to the Head of Investigation Team with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer. The role investigates referrals of unusual activity made to the Compliance Team so that Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) can be submitted within regulatory timelines or the case can be closed as not suspicious, with reasoned arguments. It covers fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions risks.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate referrals assigned by the Head of Investigation Team to assess risk exposure and mitigate it by SAR filing, account closure recommendations or freezing of funds where applicable.
• Close referrals as not suspicious, supported by articulated, reasoned argument.
• Support Customer Help Desk and Legal Team requests for investigative assistance.
• Communicate with customers, agents and internal attorneys as needed.
• Build relationships with peers in the industry to share best practices and investigative techniques.
• Keep improving knowledge of blockchain technology, virtual currencies, suspicious activity patterns and criminal modus operandi.

Required profile

• Experience in an investigative function.
• Demonstrated AML experience, including customer and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD), AML/CTF/Sanctions investigations and SAR/STR reporting.
• University education preferred.
• CAMS/CBP designation preferred.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision, flexible on working arrangements and hours, and confident in making delegated decisions.

Required skills

• Use of blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, TRM and Elliptic.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and critical thinking.
• Attention to detail.
