Technical Lead – Weapons and Ammunition Management

About the role

The Technical Lead will oversee all Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) activities in Uruguay, supporting the Uruguayan Army’s War Material Service. The role includes technical assessments, project coordination, and ensuring safe, compliant delivery of WAM operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical assessments and field operations for WAM, including Small Arms and Light Weapons management.
• Manage operational tasking across projects: assessments, training, infrastructure rehabilitation and construction of storage facilities.
• Develop and implement national WAM standards using IATG, MOSAIC and best practice.
• Provide technical advice on WAM systems, procedures, equipment and risk reduction measures.
• Deliver WAM and SALW training to government and defence personnel.
• Recruit, mentor and develop national technical staff.
• Prepare technical reports, briefings and incident investigations.

Required profile

• Significant experience in Physical Security and Stockpile Management, including inspections, licensing and compliance.
• Proven experience managing WAM operations across multiple countries.
• Strong organisational, planning and coordination abilities.
• Fluency in English and Spanish.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of Weapons and Ammunition Management activities.
• Experience with Physical Security and Stockpile Management procedures.
• Ability to develop and implement security and technical SOPs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
