Staff Software Engineer – Identity Management (Go/Golang)

About the role

Canonical is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of identity and access management (IAM) solutions across its enterprise products and web services. You will work remotely with a globally distributed team, shaping authentication and authorization flows that impact millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate proactively with a distributed team, leading technical discussions and design decisions.
• Write clean, scalable web service APIs in Go (Golang) and Python for CLI and web front‑end clients.
• Design, implement, and operate new IAM features from specification to production at scale.
• Review code, set quality standards, and mentor peers.
• Create and enhance authentication, authorization, and management API endpoints.
• Develop end‑user authentication flows and write Juju charms (operators) to handle operational concerns.
• Modernize the identity stack of Canonical’s websites and products by adopting best‑of‑breed IAM technologies.
• Travel 2‑4 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Required profile

• Staff‑level or experienced senior software engineer with a strong background in IAM product development.
• Familiarity with open‑source IAM standards and protocols such as OpenID, OAuth, and LDAP.
• Proven experience implementing authorization frameworks in distributed systems.
• Ability to own system design, delivery, and integration across multiple services.
