Senior Backend Java Engineer (Remote Contractor)

About the role

Compass is looking for a senior backend engineer with deep Java expertise to join its cloud‑native platform on a contractor basis. You will work remotely across Argentina, Uruguay or Mexico, collaborating with product and engineering teams to deliver high‑impact services that power the real‑estate journey.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain distributed, event‑driven microservices in Java.
• Lead the technical design and delivery of complex projects involving multiple engineers.
• Perform code and design reviews, write comprehensive unit and integration tests.
• Become the subject‑matter expert for one or more services, creating clear documentation and runbooks.
• Own the full lifecycle of services, including operational improvements and bottleneck removal.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Fluent English (spoken and written).
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with Java.
• Hands‑on experience leading technical design and delivery of multi‑engineer projects.
• Proven experience building cloud‑based services and working with Scrum/Agile methodologies.
