Oil Risk and Market Analyst

About the role

Trafigura's Oil Deals Desk analyses the risk of trading profit and loss and exposure, acting as a key management control across all international and domestic oil trading strategies. It produces daily reports on delta changes, deal economics, price exposure, hedge requirements and ad hoc management reporting so leadership can make informed trading decisions. The role sits within physical metals and bulk trading.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain data integrity in the reporting system, which forms the basis of PnL and exposure analysis
• Set up inception profit and loss (PnL) correctly, using knowledge of freight, demurrage, finance, hedging and pricing
• Assess daily changes in PnL and exposure due to market conditions, economics, basis risk and mark-to-market values, and write a daily commentary on variances
• Produce the forward curve used to mark-to-market positions
• Ensure basis risk and volumetric positions are correct and that hedge and pricing actions mitigate company risk, and that executions are correctly allocated in the trading system
• Reconcile PnL estimates to final invoice value so trading PnL is finalized and in line with statutory requirements, feeding the trade ledgers in the statutory accounts
• Continuously review and upgrade processes and systems to improve the accuracy and timeliness of reporting

Required profile

• At least 2 years of experience in risk analysis or market analysis roles
• Bachelor's degree in economics, industrial engineering, actuarial science, accounting, finance or a related field
• Good English (intermediate or B2) and excellent Spanish (advanced or C1)
• Preferred: knowledge of physical, derivatives and underlying instruments, and experience in position, exposure and commercial PnL reporting
