Lead Backend Engineer – Java & Data Pipelines

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to design and build scalable Java‑based backend systems that power our AI‑driven data services. The role combines deep technical leadership with hands‑on development of distributed, high‑performance data pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend services in Java, focusing on reliability, performance and multi‑service integration.
• Lead architecture of distributed systems handling large‑scale data processing and storage.
• Develop concurrent, multi‑threaded applications using advanced synchronization patterns.
• Build and maintain big‑data pipelines with Apache Spark and Airflow.
• Manage containerized workloads on Kubernetes, defining deployment and scaling strategies.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers on best practices and performance optimization.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define APIs, service contracts and integration patterns.
• Implement observability solutions with Grafana, Prometheus or Loki and support production deployments.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong Java expertise.
• Proven experience designing and operating distributed, high‑throughput systems.
• Deep knowledge of concurrency, thread synchronization and performance profiling.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with data modeling.
• Hands‑on experience with Apache Spark, Apache Airflow and Kubernetes.
