AIT Optics Engineer

About the role

Satellogic designs, manufactures and operates its own fleet of Earth observation satellites, including the Aleph-1 constellation. The Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT) team ensures that satellites designed by Satellite Engineering can be built in stable, scalable processes at the manufacturing plant. As an AIT Optics Engineer you will work on the optical payload of the satellite service platform, from purchasing until launch, and act as the main contact for the manufacturing facility on optical payload matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the optical payload manufacturing lifecycle, from purchasing until launch.
• Design and run experiments at AIT facilities, collect results and report them.
• Gather requirements from optical engineers and design and co-implement testing hardware and software, including verification tests.
• Design, implement and maintain hardware and software to automate laboratory measurements, data handling and data analysis.
• Keep the engineering package updated for manufacturing operation systems.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design and manufacturing procedures.
• Interact with vendors on supply issues.

Required profile

• Degree in optics, electronic engineering, physics or a related field.
• Experience in optical or opto-mechanical systems or related fields.
• Fluent Spanish and English.
• Desirable: experience in planning and task methodologies, defining manufacturing processes, measuring and automating tests and assembly, and experience in the space industry.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Linux OS, Python and code version control tools (git).
• Troubleshooting of standalone hardware and related services, and hardware diagnostic and repair.
• Ability to understand complex satellite architectures and manage trade-offs.
