Java Software Developer – Intelligent Routing

About the role

Join Descartes to build the next generation of intelligent route optimization capabilities that help fleets make faster, better decisions at scale. You will work on backend engineering, algorithms, cloud technologies, and AI/ML to solve complex routing challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Develop high‑performance Java‑based microservices on AWS for core routing services.
• Advance routing intelligence with AI/ML, using real operational outcomes to improve optimization.
• Identify bottlenecks, evaluate trade‑offs, and implement scalable solutions to improve system architecture and performance.
• Own meaningful components of the routing platform from design through deployment and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and data science teams to turn logistics challenges into measurable solutions.

Required profile

• Strong experience with Java and modern backend development.
• Experience with distributed systems and microservice architectures.
• Solid understanding of algorithms, optimization, and complex problem‑solving.
• Ability to assess performance, scalability, reliability, and architectural trade‑offs.
