Boarding Agent / Operations Assistant

About the role

GAC Uruguay is looking for an organized, proactive and service-oriented Boarding Agent / Operations Assistant for a full-time, on-site position in Montevideo. The role combines vessel attendance with office-based operational coordination and administrative support, supporting vessel calls and coordinating with customers, service providers and authorities. Training is provided, so previous shipping agency experience is an advantage but not essential.

Key responsibilities

• Attend vessels and support port call operations in line with company procedures and GAC policies.
• Respond promptly to operational enquiries from principals and prospective customers.
• Coordinate vessel arrivals, stays and departures with pilots, tug operators, mooring teams, terminal operators and relevant authorities.
• Maintain clear communication with principals, vessel owners and operators, giving timely updates on vessel activities.
• Prepare and process operational documentation, including government forms, port clearance documents and SOF.
• Follow up on services provided to vessels and maintain accurate operational records.

Required profile

• Completed upper secondary education (high school diploma or equivalent).
• Studies in shipping, logistics, international trade or a related field are an advantage.
• Previous experience in shipping agency operations or logistics is desirable but not essential.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish; a valid driving licence is an advantage but not required.
• Willingness to work outside normal office hours, including nights, weekends and public holidays, depending on vessel schedules.

Required skills

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong interpersonal skills, organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to solve problems and adapt to changing operational needs.
