Freelance Optical Engineer – AI Trainer

About the role

We are looking for a freelance Optical Engineer to help train and evaluate AI systems by creating realistic optics problems. This remote, project‑based role is ideal for professionals who enjoy bridging physics research with computational challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Design original optics problems that simulate real physics research workflows.
• Ensure problems are computationally intensive and cannot be solved manually within reasonable timeframes.
• Develop problem sets that require non‑trivial reasoning in mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics.
• Base problems on real research challenges or practical applications from optics and physics practice.
• Document problem statements clearly and provide verified correct answers.

Required profile

• Degree in Physics (theoretical, experimental, or computational) or a related field.
• 2+ years of professional experience in applied, research, or teaching roles.
• Experience with numerical simulation methods.
• Ability to design problems that mirror real physics research workflows.
• Creative thinking across diverse physics areas.
• Strong written English (C1+).
