Senior Controller – Hospitality Portfolio

About the role

Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Controller to lead the financial operations of its hospitality‑focused client portfolio. You will partner with the Accounting Director to transform disorganized books into reliable, timely reports for hotels, restaurants, and multi‑unit operators.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full month‑end close cycle for a defined set of clients, reconciling accounts and reviewing journal entries.
• Prepare accurate monthly P&L statements, cash‑flow summaries, and departmental reports tailored to hospitality operators.
• Manage complex payroll structures, including tipped employees, multiple departments, and seasonal staffing, ensuring all filings are completed on time.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, communicating clearly and setting expectations.
• Document workflows, build checklists and SOPs, and reduce reliance on institutional knowledge.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the hospitality industry.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to spot errors before they become issues.
• Clear written communication skills and sound judgment on escalation.
• Proactive mindset – identifies problems and resolves them independently.

Required skills

• Solid command of GAAP and multi‑entity accounting.
• Experience with hospitality‑specific payroll processes.
• Familiarity with platforms such as M3, QuickBooks, Restaurant365 (or similar).
