Senior Controller – Hospitality Portfolio

About the role

Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Controller to lead the financial operations of its hospitality portfolio. You will partner with the Accounting Director to transform messy books into reliable reporting for growth‑stage hotels, restaurants and multi‑unit operators.

Key responsibilities

• Own the month‑end close for assigned hospitality clients, reconciling accounts, reviewing journal entries and delivering clean financial statements on schedule.
• Prepare monthly profit‑and‑loss statements, cash‑flow summaries and departmental reports tailored to hotels, restaurants and multi‑unit operators, highlighting variances and actionable insights.
• Manage complex hospitality payroll, including tipped employees, multiple departments and seasonal staffing, ensuring all filings are accurate and timely.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, communicating clearly and setting expectations to prevent issues.
• Document and standardise workflows, create checklists and SOPs to reduce reliance on institutional knowledge and improve process efficiency.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the hospitality sector (hotels, restaurants or multi‑unit food & beverage operations).
• Strong command of GAAP and multi‑entity accounting principles.
• Proactive mindset: identifies problems early and implements solutions independently.
• Excellent attention to detail and clear written communication.
